Justin knew little about the area when he moved to Porter County in 2018. He grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and his wife, Heather, grew up in South Bend. His job as a financial planner brought them to Valparaiso.
“We fell in love with the community,” said Justin. “We have access to everything we need—great resources, parks and schools.”
“It feels safe to raise a family here,” Heather added. “The community is family friendly.”
Through his work, Justin discovered the Porter County Community Foundation. Raised in a charitable family where he frequently saw his grandfather model generosity, Justin learned the importance of giving. He saw PCCF as one way to continue the tradition.
When they heard about the matching opportunity that would increase the impact of an unrestricted gift, Justin and Heather chose to establish the McCurdy Family Community Fund with a stock gift. “The community foundation is a multiplier for good in the community,” Justin said. “PCCF knows the broader needs and how gifts can be best spent.”
Once they decided to start a fund, they chose to make a gift of stock because of the tax advantages. “Giving comes first,” Justin said. “The tax benefits are a bonus.”
Donations to the Porter County Community Fund and donors like the McCurdy Family who start their own unrestricted funds support PCCF’s Community Fund grants program. Thank you for being part of this work.
